1837 - Union Colonel Strong Vincent was born in Waterford, Pennsylvania. He was mortally wounded at Little Round Top on July 2, 1863. He died from his wounds on July 7.

1861 - U.S. President Abraham Lincoln witnessed Dr. Thaddeus Lowe demonstrate the use of a gas balloon.
