Father's Day

Who is one of your best friends? Who do you ask for help from when you are in trouble? Who is your role model? For many of us we can answer theses questions with one word, Dad.

Whether you are male or female most likely your father had a major influence and impact on your life. Many of us strive to make our fathers proud of us.

What do we do to honor our fathers? What little extras can we do to make their lives better?

One of the most common tributes in the United States is the celebration of Father's Day.

Father's day was originally suggested by a women from Spokane Washington . Sonora Dodd was extremely proud of her father Jackson Smart. Jackson was a Civil war veteran and had amazingly raised six children on his own as a single father.

Sonora wanted to honor her father and had recently heard of a lady named Anna Jarvis who had promoted the creation of Mother's Day.

Sonora figured if Anna could do it so could she. Well Sonora had a more difficult time. Even though the holiday got widespread support from both politicians and the public it was not made an official holiday until 1972. In 1972 Richard Nixon designated the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.

Nearly every country around the world celebrates Father's Day. Many countries celebrate it on different day but never the less they do celebrate the holiday.

One things for sure we all owe both our Mothers and Fathers a debt of gratitude. Come on now you remember how difficult you were when you were growing up. I think we can all agree that our Father is one of our best friends and in many cases our hero.

Make sure you do something nice for your Dad this Father's Day.
