Oktoberfest

Have you ever heard the song Roll out the Barrel? The song is based on the celebration of Oktoberfest. At the Oktoberfest beer used to be kept in large wooden barrels

People; from around the world join to drink and eat at the Oktoberfest which takes place for two weeks in Germany. I have not had the opportunity to attend an Oktoberfest yet in Germany but have attended many Oktoberfest style events held in the United States. One thing you should do before you attend an oktoberfest event is to get a really good night's sleep and make sure you drink plenty of water. Once at the Oktoberfest make sure that you eat do not just sit there and drank it might lead to an embarrassing episode. Make sure you take a group of your friends and one of you is a designated driver.

The Oktoberfest for 2005 starts on Sept. 17th in the city of Munich Germany. At noon the Mayor of Munich will tap the first king of beer. Seats fill very fast at the Oktoberfest tents so its best to get at least one person at the table as early as possible. Recently there has been some drama; concerning people claiming tables year after year in specific tents. This occasionally can lead to some bad blood between tourists and local people. The Oktoberfest is supposed to be a celebration so plan it out get some sleep and get there early that way have nothing to be upset about.

The first Oktoberfest was held on Oct. 12, 1810 and lasted six days ending on the 17th of October. The celebration was to honor the recent marriage of Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese. The celebration was a huge success and he was to be repeated yearly ongoing.

In the coming years Oktoberfest was moved to Septembers because the weather was warmer and the nights would not get so chilly. This also allowed for tourists and visitors to explore some of the beautiful gardens. If you ever get a chance to go to Oktoberfest it is highly recommended remember eat a lot of food, drink lots water and always have a designated driver.
