1953 - The Academy Awards came to television for the first time.

1954 - Viewers saw the first televised prize fight was shown in color when Joey Giardello knocked out Willie Tory in round seven at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

1977 - The last episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" aired on CBS.

1979 - The U.S. House of Representatives began broadcasting its daily business on TV.

1982 - The 100th episode of "Dallas" aired on CBS.

1984 - The TV show "Kate and Allie" premiered.

1987 - Televangelist Jim Bakker resigned from the PTL due to a scandal involving Jessica Hahn.

1989 - The 300th episode of "Dallas" aired on CBS.

1989 - "Return of the Jedi" made its network premiere on NBC. It earned a 15.1 rating.

1995 - Michael Jordan returned to the Chicago Bulls after nearly two years of retirement. He scored 19 points in the loss to the Indiana Pacers. The game, televised on NBC, was the most watched regular season game in NBA history with an estimated 35 million viewers.

1997 - The 200th episode of "Beverly Hills 90210" was aired on FOX.

2003 - FOX announced that it had hired Monica Lewinsky to be the host of the dating show "Mr. Personality."
